More Than …
HFR is more than a fire department. HFR is a Brotherhood/Sisterhood. Hurricane is a family. Just like when the public calls 911 for help; Hurricane shows up time after time. When a member calls another member for help; HFR shows up and shows out; every time. With a diverse group of people specializing in all facets of life, we are not only here for our community, We are here for each other.
State of the Art Fleet / Equipment
Our members, day in and day out, provide the best level of service possible to our residents within our first due district and surrounding areas. To provide the best service, you need the best equipment. HFR takes pride in our apparatus and equipment and ensure every day it is in the best condition possible because that is what our residents deserve and expect.
Progressive EMS Program
If nothing else, HFR is known for our EMS program! With over 25 EMT’s and EMR’s, we take pride in staffing our EMS Squads. If EMS peaks your interest, look no further! Hurricane has the latest technology and equipment to take your EMS career wherever you please. We also run over 1,000 EMS runs a year, so you won’t lack gaining valuable in the field experience either!
Answer the Alarm
HFR members answer the alarm over 1,800 times a year. Within those 1,800 alarms, there are a wide range of challenges. From structure fires, to cardiac arrests, to technical and specialized rescues. You never know what the next alarm will be, and you know what? That’s the exciting part! Are you up for the challenge? Does helping your community while doing some pretty cool things excite you? Keep reading to see what else HFR has to offer!
Technical Rescue Team
HFR has implemented a technical rescue team that encompasses rope rescue, confined space, building collapse, swift /top water, and trench. New assets and equipment have arrived and, on the way, to help compliment this program. If technical rescue is something that interests, you contact HFR.
New Regional Training Facility
Construction of a new regional training facility started in August of 2024. HFR has partnered with West Virginia Public Safety Training, Mountain State College, and West Virginia Department of Emergency Management to develop this real-world educational campus. With support from The City of Hurricane and Putnam County Commission the construction of the Hurricane Regional Training Academy (HRTA) is in its second phase. Multiple burn buildings paired with state-of-the-art technical rescue and hazardous materials props set the stage for professional development for all regional first responders.
Fitness
Firefighting and EMS are demanding jobs. With that comes physical demands. Here at HFR, we encourage physical fitness. To ensure our members are at their peak physical performance at all times we have a modern fitness facility paired with a robust physical fitness program.
We Lead From the Front
Our leadership recognizes what our most valuable asset is. YOU! HFR is an organization you can join and make a difference in, on day one! Every member of our department brings their own skill set and life experience to the table. We LOVE our diverse group we have at HFR and welcome YOU to bring your skill set and life experience and help enhance our program even further! As a member of HFR, you will be joining one of the most progressive and forward-thinking departments in the area.
